THERE ARE VARIOUS TYPES OF GANTRY CRANES.
Gantry crane can be classified according to the form of door frame structure, according to the form of main beam, according to the structure of main beam, according to the form of use.
a. MH Electric Hoist Gantry Crane: MH gantry crane with electric hoist is small-medium type lifting equipment which runs at rails. It is mainly composed of gantry frame (girder, leg, ground cross beam, etc.), hoisting mechanism, travelling mechanism and electric control part. The electric hoist is hoisting mechanism; it runs along the lower flange of the I-steel of the girder. The gantry frame includes box-shape structure and truss structure. Box shaping and easy fabrication, with light trussed frame and strong in wind resistance. Light dead weight, simple structure and easy installation and maintenance, so it is applicable to outdoor operational sites of small-medium lifting load for general handling such as factories and mines, freight yards and warehouses. It is prohibited to operate in the environment with inflammable, explosive and corrosive gas.
b. L Type Single Main Beam Hook Gantry Crane: L gantry crane is mainly composed of gantry frame, lifting trolley, long crane travelling mechanism, cab and electric control system. The gantry frame is in box-shape structure. The trolley adopts verticaI reaction wheel when the lifting load is below 20t, and horizontal reaction wheel when above 20t to run at the girder side. The girder is of single-girder bias track and the leg is L-shaped, with large lifting space, L type make the lifting long piece objects cross over cantilever side from inner span easily.
A. U Type Double Beam Hook Gantry Crane

B. U Type Subway Turn Slag Hook Gantry Crane
MG gantry crane for subway construction is a special gantry crane which is developed on the basis of general gantry crane according to the operating requirements and working conditions of underground construction.
The crane consists of trolley, gantry, trolley travelling mechanism, hydraulic turnover mechanism, cab and electric equipment.
On the trolley is furnished with a hydraulic turnover mechanism, which is composed of a hydraulic work station and a slag-turning hook. At the middle of the carrier-beam is a hook, which is used to lift common load.
The trolley travelling mechanism is 4 drives in 8 wheels. The motor fixed on the trolley drives wheels by vertical speed reducer. A windproof rail clamp is equipped. It is detached from the rail when the crane is in niormal operation, and when the crane stops working, the operator will put down the clamp to catch the rail so as to avoid the crane sliding.

C. MG Type Double Beam Gantry Crane
MG double-beam gantry crane with hook is composed of gantry, crare trolley, trolley traveling mechanism, cab and electric control system. The gantry is of a box-shape structure, the main girder is bias track dcouble girder and the leg is divided into Type A and Type U according to user’s requirements.
The closed cab is used for operation, in which there are adjustable seat, insulating mat on the floor, toughened glass for the window, fire extinguisher, electric fan and auxiliary equipment such as air conditioner, acoustic alarm and interphone which can be furnished as required by users
D. MG Type Double Beam Truss Gantry Crane
MG Double-beam truss gantry crane is comprised of gantry, crane trolley, trolley travelling mechanism, cab and electric control system. The gantry, of a truss structure and having advantages of light structure, strong wind resistance and so on, is composed of girder, upper end girder, leg,lower end girder, travelling trolley and platform railing. The girder is of a triangular truss structure, on which laid rails for crane trolley to transversely move along the girder. The legs, of a truss structure, are weld by section steel. The platform, which is used to place electric equipment and used for repair, is furnished with protection railing outside.
3. Semi Gantry Crane
A semi-gantry crane has one leg and uses a wall mounted I beam to support the other side of the crane. The composition of a semi-gantry crane includes a bridge, crane mechanism, trolley, and hoist. Semi-gantry cranes are a combination of overhead and gantry cranes and are installed indoors and outdoors. In many cases, they are installed below an overhead crane to increase work efficiency without interfering with the operation of the overhead crane.
Portable gantry cranes are light weight and mounted on rubber wheels or casters. They have a lifting capacity of a half a ton up to five tons and come in varying heights and spans. Portable gantry cranes are an economical solution for infrequent lifting problems but have the same efficiency as a permanent crane. They can be moved to any location in a facility to lift or place materials.
USES OF GANTRY CRANES IN INDUSTRY
1. Ordinary Gantry Crane
This kind of crane adopts box type and truss type structure, the most widely used. It can handle all kinds of pieces and bulk materials with a lifting weight of less than 100 tons and a span of 4 ~ 39 meters. The ordinary gantry crane with grab bucket works at a higher level. Common gantry crane mainly refers to hook, grab, electromagnetic, hoist gantry crane, but also includes half gantry crane.
2. Gantry Crane of Hydropower Station
Mainly used for lifting and opening and closing the gate, but also for installation. The lifting weight is 80 ~ 500 tons, the span is small, 8 ~ 16 meters; The lifting speed is low, ranging from 1 to 5 m/min. Although this kind of crane is not often lifted, but once the use of work is very heavy, so we should properly improve the level of work.
3. Shipbuilding Gantry Crane
It is used to assemble the hull on the slipway. Two lifting carts are usually provided: one has two main hooks and runs on the track of the flange of the bridge; The other, with a main hook and a secondary hook, runs on rails at the lower flange of the bridge for flipping and lifting large hull sections. The lifting weight is generally 100 ~ 1500 tons; Span up to 185 meters; The lifting speed is 2 ~ 15 m/min, and the fretting speed is 0.1 ~ 0.5 m/min.
4. Gantry Container Crane
Used in container terminals. After the containers unloaded from the shore wall container carrying bridge are transported to the yard or rear by the trailer, they can be piled up by the gantry crane or loaded directly, which can speed up the turnover of the container carrying bridge or other cranes. Can stack 3 ~ 4 layers high, 6 rows wide container yard, generally with tire type, also useful rail type. Compared with the container gantry crane, its span and the height of both sides of the gantry are larger. In order to adapt to the transportation needs of the port terminal, the crane work level is higher. The lifting speed is 8 ~ 10 m/min; The span is determined by the number of rows of containers to be crossed, with a maximum of about 60 meters and a lifting weight of about 20 tons, 25 tons and 30 tons respectively for 20-foot, 30-foot and 40-foot containers.
