Gantry and Bridge Crane Operating Procedures

As special equipment, the use of cranes must follow strict operating procedures to prevent accidents caused by improper operation. Here are the operating regulations for cranes:

  1. The mechanical structure should appear normal, with no loose connections.
  2. The condition of the wire rope should be good, and the rope clips should be secure.
  3. All safety limit devices must be complete and in good condition.
  4. The operating room should be equipped with wooden or insulating boards. After connecting the power supply, use a voltage tester to check the metal structures for any leakage before operating; dedicated ladders should be used for accessing the upper and lower control rooms.
  5. Before operation, an empty load test should be conducted to ensure all mechanisms operate normally, brakes are reliable, and all limit switches are sensitive and effective.
  6. Before starting, an audible signal should be given. Lifting and lowering operations should be smooth and steady; when lifting large items, do not use fast speeds, and secure the hoisting rope to prevent swinging.
  7. When lifting flammable, explosive, or hazardous materials, approval from the safety authority is required, along with appropriate safety measures.
  8. The lifting route for heavy objects must not pass over people or equipment. When moving empty, the hook should be at least 2 meters above the ground.
  9. After lifting, travel slowly; sudden speed changes or reversing during travel is prohibited. When two cranes operate simultaneously, maintain a distance of 3-5 meters. It is forbidden to push one crane with another.
  10. During crane operation, both sides of the drive wheels should move synchronously. If any deviation is noticed, stop operations and adjust before continuing.
  11. During operations, no one is allowed to cross from one bridge crane to another.
  12. When operators enter the bridge frame or perform maintenance, there should be an automatic power cut-off interlock device or the power should be disconnected in advance.
  13. For outdoor operations, gantry and bridge cranes should stop work and secure the clamp when encountering winds of level six or higher.
  14. If the main beam deflection of the gantry or bridge crane exceeds the specified limit, it must be repaired before use.
  15. After operations, the gantry crane should be parked on the shutdown line, secured with clamps, and the hook raised to the upper position; the bridge crane should park the trolley between the two tracks with the hook raised. No load should be suspended from the hook.
  16. After operations, set the controller to zero, disconnect the power, and securely close and lock the control room doors and windows.
